Haglund’s deformity

Heel Hole Preventer Patches

What causes heel holes?

Unfortunately, as with much in life, there is not a simple answer to this question. There are a number of issues that can cause heel holes to form. A few of the more common ones are listed below:
Haglund’s deformity: A bony deformity that will very likely wear a hole in the heel area of shoes. Essentially, there’s an extra lumpy bit on the back of your heel. Also known as “pump bump” – the font of all knowledge (Google) said that the name originates from “pump-style” shoes, with rigid backs, that can create pressure and aggravate the bony lump when walking.

Heel slippage: If your heel rubs up and down at the back of the shoe, the shoe lining will likely wear out sooner than it ordinarily would. This can be caused by poor fitting shoes or not tying laces correctly / tightly enough.

Running style – Heel Striking: If you are a heel striker (landing heavily on your heels when you run), this can lead to increased wear in that area.

Stride length: A longer stride length, compared to a short stride length, can exert more force to the shoe lining at the back of the heel

Golfers: holes in the heel area can appear in golf shoes because of the repeated pressure and friction exerted on that spot during the golf swing. The powerful downward force generated during a golf swing puts a lot of stress on the heel area, especially when the golfer is rotating their body through the swing.

Not undoing your laces: If you force your foot into your footwear, rather than undoing your laces, this can cause the lining to wear prematurely.
